  • Juniper Jam - The Story

Definition: Juniper Jam - The Sweetest Little Music Festival in Eastern Oregon
    [juniperous musica dulcis]

Once upon a time in a high valley nestled in the remote wilds of Eastern Oregon there began a small one-day music festival. Songwriters and musicians gathered from lands far and near to share their talents with others, under the shadow of eagle's wings and mountain peaks. Scattered throughout this lovely little valley, lining gravel roads and curving highways, the lowly juniper tree is a sentinel - humbly welcoming sojurners out of the canyons carved by the winding waters of the Wallowas into the lush green fields and rolling prairie land that we call home.

Enterprise, Oregon is a small town of less than two thousand people, yet it is the heartbeat of a community brimming with arts and culture, and yes, music. Juniper Jam is a celebration of musical diversity, dedicated to showcasing a variety of musical genres while honoring the song and the songwriter.

    Visit the Juniper Jam Community

If you don't know where Enterprise, Oregon is, have a look at a map (like this Google map) and you'll see that we're in the far northeast corner of the state, on the way to pretty much nowhere except Imnaha and Hells Canyon. (both fine places to visit) Yes, we're a bit out of the way, but worth it! Only a four hour drive from Spokane, Washington, or Boise, Idaho. La Grande, Oregon is just over the hill to the west of us.

Wallowa County is a tight-knit but diverse rural community with green pastures full of cows, horses, sheep and real cowboys. The Eagle Cap Wilderness is right out the back door if you're into hiking. Wallowa Lake is about as clear and cool as one can imagine. We have world class bronze foundries and art galleries, rodeos, motorcycle rallies, quilt shops, antique tractors, writers conferences, schools . . . and lots of musicians. It's just a really cool place to live, and we invite you to come to Juniper Jam, then stick around for awhile. Visit the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce website for connections to detailed information about whatever your interests are. Besides music, we probably have something else going on that strikes a chord.

Juniper Jam is an all-volunteer run festival. We would like you pitch in, we're sure our volunteer coordinator can put you to work doing something meaningful. There are plenty of things to do, big things, little things, many on the day of the event, some ahead of time. Send us an email and we'll put you to work! The really cool thing is, if you volunteer at Juniper Jam, you don't have to buy a ticket!

    And, of course, the Disclaimer

Juniper Jam is held at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds. There are a few little rules we need to follow in order to make this event come off without a hitch. First off, you can't bring your pets. Second thing, you can't bring coolers or alchoholic beverages. Our vendors will be serving a large variety of food and drink, including our locally brewed award-winning Terminal Gravity Beer, some wine and some other beer too. Click here for the list of vendors. What you SHOULD bring is sunscreen, layered clothing, blankets, kids, lawn chairs, a little cash and a good attitude and we'll all have a great time. You'll need to show valid ID if you plan on having a beer or glass of wine. Anyway, that's about it for the fine print. If you have any questions we haven't answered here, feel free to email us.
